The art of engraving has been around for centuries with the technique being used in a simplistic form since ??? However engraving printed on paper is believed to have begun in the 15th century.

It is an art form that has endured not only because it helps to create beautiful intricate pieces of art but also because has unique uses in modern life. Engraving is still used today to produce printed notes around world including the American banknotes and British banknotes. The reason for this is that engravings are so detailed and intricate that they are hard to forge, even with the advent of computer technology.

Of course most people will encounter engraving as a means of personalising a special item for example a trophy, a glass gift, a souvenir, jewellery or even a personalised nameplate for a house.

Most engravers are able to work with metal objects and if you want a piece of jewellery personalised you should easily be able to find a jewellery engraver in your area. Alternatively trophy engravers may be another option. However glass engravers and engraving artists maybe a little more difficult to find.

Engraving for one of pieces is often done by hand, where the engraver takes great care to produce a serious of dots, dashes and curved line to achieve the desired effect. This technique can be used on anything from bowl and plates to decanters and goblets as well as medals, trophies, shields wall panels. And most engravers work with glass, metal and wood.

Machine engraving is usually used to produce large volumes of engraved merchandise, for example commemorative plates and limited edition glass bowls to name just a couple of examples.
